The World Council of Churches has two official statements on mission, which are highly influential and indicative of their time for the state of missional theology in the ecumenical discourse. The first one is the 1982 Mission and Evangelism: An Ecumenical Affirmation, the second one is titled Together Towards Life that was accepted in 2012. In my paper, I examined these two documents from a new viewpoint, searching for their understanding of worship and liturgy. In the time when these two documents developed, there was a new recognition of the multidirectional nature of the church’s mission, and worship was recognised as one of these aspects. I wanted to see in what way these statements define the role of worship in the mission of the Church and if there was any development or change between the two documents. I found that while there are some differences between them, we could identify four distinguishable and common aspects of how the relationship of worship and mission is described in these statements.
