Abstract

Numerous uncertainties prevail in connection with Sts. Cyril and Methodius mission up till now. Uncertainties result from insufficient sources in relation to the mission itself and the location where the mission took place. The paper draws attention to the fact that there are researchers who strive to utilize the gaps in sources for different speculative revelations. Such researchers are applying postmodern methodology, selecting historical sources, of which they are "mining" only such documents which fit as an evidence. The author focuses on works of Hungarian historian Imre Boby from the seventies of the 20th century as well as works of his disciples dated at the end of the 20th and beginning of 21st centuries. Their discoveries characterize the new localization of the activities to the areal of Northern Balkans and/or Southern Pannonia. These opinions are not substantiated by archeological surveys, however the most persuasive arguments come from evidence of philological kind. The author also draws attention to new interpretations of sources which disprove opinions on Syrmium, which is thought of to be the archbishop Methodius Episcopal See.
