Abstract

In the (post)modern plural world, the Church is faced with a choice between three basic possibilities of its operation: 1) Fundamentalist option: close up before the world, proclaim it for worthless, cursed and discarded; for itself, however, create an oasis with the thickest possible “social walls” and try to live as it once did, as if nothing in the world has changed. 2) Liberalist option - in the greatest possible adaptation to the postmodern world. 3) The option of dialogue with this world and inculturation, which means to such an extent the modernized functioning of the Church so that it is not something foreign in its surroundings; on the other hand, care is taken not to lose its originality in the update. From the guidelines on the new evangelization since the Second Vatican Council, it is clear which option the Church has chosen. So we understand why the efforts for ecumenical dialogue were joined by a focus on interreligious dialogue. We understand the weight of these directions of the Church's action even better if we emphasize that dialogue is not only in the religious field, but also in the wider areas of the postmodern world. Therefore at the same time, the new evangelization contributes to the survival of the postmodern world.
