The most important element of missiological research is the systematic categorizing analysis of basic terminology. Features of the historical genesis of the basic concepts of missiology are placed into modern discussions devoted to missionary service. Normative documents of the Russian Orthodox Church contain detailed definitions of missiological terminology and determine the trajectories of further research. The objective of this study is to determine the differences in the content of the concepts of "missionary work" and "proselytism".
