Abstract

This article examines the relevance of the doctrine of the Trinity for interreligious dialogue. The appeal to the Trinity, in the context of the theology of interreligious dialogue, may offer a resolution of many complex problems, raised by Christianity’s encounter with other religious traditions. This article examines trinitarian approaches developed by catholic thinkers Panikkar, D’Costa, Dupuis, which focus on the role of the Trinity and the Holy Spirit and seek to build a theology of religions founded not on mutual contradictions and confrontation but on harmony, convergence and unity. A feature of the Trinitarian approach of Orthodox theology is the understanding that the Church is communion, the source and the model for which is the Trinity. Orthodox theologians J. Zizioulas, P. Vassiliadis, A. Yannoulatos, I. Bria, D. Hart focus on the theology of mission, understood as testimony, aimed at the transfer of experience of communion with God the Church as new life in Christ.
