Abstract

This article discusses the concept of personality defence mechanisms; a brief overview of both the Biblical position and one of the prevailing positions of secular psychology is made. Particular attention is paid to the role of the system of defence mechanisms of adaptation, which helps people to adapt to difficult life situations, to cope with difficult experiences, and the importance of understanding and using this knowledge by servants who are faced with such defence mechanisms in the environment of the people they serve. This article was written to help ministers understand and help people. One of the emphasis of the article is in the importance of the minister's ability to empathy, in the ability not to evaluate behavior, but to be able to enter the “world of another” and be close. In general, I would like to draw attention to the problem of having counseling at the stage of evangelism and to the need for deeper preparation for the personal work of a mentor with every person who comes to Christ.
