The doctoral thesis analyses the development of the 3rd patriarch of the Czechoslovak Hussite church in the relation to the churches and the ecumenical movement at home as well as abroad from his childhood till his leaving of the active service in the church, inluding his influence of the ecumenical developmnet of the church. One of the strengths of his thinking and work was to compare church work with the development of the Kingdom of God, and this also became his ecumenical criterium. The theological and church-historical context describes Kovar´s work and reflection of the Czechoslovak church in relation to other churches.
