The article investigates the meanings of the word proselytism, and the problematic forms of proselytism that have had a negative impact on the understanding of the Christian mission in various parts of the world, not least in Central and Eastern Europe. The article then goes on to consider the root meaning of the Greek proselutos, as the one who draws near, and suggests this as a model for mission today.
