The papers aims to explore several factors that contribute to the tendency of secularization in evangelical churches in Central and Eastern Europe. Furthermore, theological solutions to the causes of secularization are proposed. The paper theorizes the existence of three causes for the tendency to secularize. The first is the secularization of theological education, the second is the crisis of the identity of the Church, and the third is the secularization of leadership. As a first solution, a solution to the secularization of theological education, this paper proposes a redefinition of theology as communion, of theological education as transformation, and of theological formation as discipleship. Second, the solution to the crisis of church identity, which leads to negative features of identity, is to replace the model of Christian living that comes down to external co-formation (which leads to social isolation, subculturalism and spiritual abuse) by a model of inner transformation, which leads to a healthy spirituality and a meaningful theology of mission. Third and final, the solution to the secularization of leadership is to rediscover the kenotic model of Christian living and ministry.
