At a time when the hypothesis of the »clash of civilisations« is quite popular, it is worth studying the (non-)meeting of civilisations on the case of the missionary activity of the Church, especially from the structural aspect. By the missionary activity Christian structures enter civilisation environments that are either structurally simpler (e.g. tribal organization) or of the same level, but different with regard to the religion. The treatise shows the civilizing impact of Christian structures (Jesus Christ and space and time, the Bible and orthodoxy, hierarchy, symbols and theology) and their universalizing effect, which destroys local civilisations and meets with resistance of other universalistic civilisations with their corresponding religions (Islam, Buddhism etc.). On the basis of the conclusions of the treatise, it is possible in the global world to bring about such co-operation that will be able to avoid conflicts and contribute to peace and the common weal.
