Surely we can all agree that everyone needs to hear the gospel. Yet, some did not hear it, even though they consider themselves Christians. Missionary work among nominal Christians is a challenge in which one's missionary approach is certainly influenced by one's (evangelical or Pentecostal) emphases in soteriology and ecclesiology. In this contribution, I ask myself questions such as: "How do we approach the differences in beliefs and the mission among nominal Christians?", "How much is the mission in Europe among non-Muslims needed?", "Should we help people to come to us, or equip them to contribute to the revival in their churches?", "What can be the positives and negatives of the presence of nominal Christianity in the mission field?" This short study is based on readings on the problem of proselytism and ethno-religious identity and focuses on the context of the peoples of South-Eastern Europe (the Balkans). My conclusions are based on secondary literature, on my own observation, and above all on the statements of contemporary Czech Protestant missionaries of various denominations in the countries of the former Yugoslavia, with whom semi-structured interviews took place in 2018-2019, as part of a broader research project.
