Abstract

This chapter takes several approaches inspired by Dr. Ramet’s scholarship on the issue of surviving the transformations of the last century. The primary events covered below take their forms as first the consequences of the communist era in Albania (and Yugoslavia) and only then are the contexts influencing people’s many (contradictory) decisions to survive the transitional period from 1990 onward considered. Of particular focus are the many Albanian Christian sectarian experiences as they transition to a new era that saw very different kinds of regimes change, but not necessarily vanish.
