Abstract

This study deals with volunteering and its use by short-term mission trips to help the community and give something in return on the one side and on the other hand with the sharing economy as a modern phenomenon, which increases on importance and the opportunities which brings the development of sharing platforms to the field of volunteering. The results of our study showed us that volunteering is an important part of community activities and that people who are willing to share their own free time, skills, or knowledge with others for free often stated, that volunteering improved their self-confidence, mental health and helped them become more aware of the community The volunteers who used their holidays for short-term mission trips said that it helped them to better understand different cultures as well as themselves Through the analyses, we also found that volunteering and the shared community economy have a common idea, which is sharing time in order to give something back to the community and that there also exist some volunteering digital platforms combining the principles of the sharing economy with volunteerism.
