Abstract

This study examines the nature of Old Testament historical narratives as literature, history and theology and urges for an approach to interpretation that takes into account all these characteristics. e purpose of the argument is to refute the ideea that there can be such a thing as an academic interpretation of the Bible, „free” of theological concers. It is shown that, since the Bible is literature, rooted in history and comunicating theology, any approach to its interpretation, regardles the context in which it emerges, should keep literary, historical and theological concerns in ballance. As such, any dichotomic understanding of Biblical interpretation is but a fallacy.
