Abstract

In this thesis I will be dealing with the issue of the role and responsibility of religion in general and of religious groups in particular, namely of the Roman Catholic and the Orthodox Church, in the wars in ex-Yugoslavia. My research will be focused on tracing historical roots of the relationship of religion and state in the Slavic states, exploring and defining the social and political character of religion in the Slavic states in the 20th century, and finally examining the Christian character displayed by the Churches during the 1990’s wars.
