Recent research has emphasized that the Christian mission has its ultimate foundation in the eternal communion of love of the Holy Trinity. Out of this communion the Son and the Holy Spirit are sent into the world by the Father to set us free in Christ and through the Holy Spirit from the bondage of sin and death, to bestow salvation and divinization according to grace, and so on sharing eternal community of life with the triune God. In this way, through the mission and action of Christ and the Holy Spirit, the mystery of the communion of grace of the triune God with the faithful and also the Church, the ecclesial body of Christ and the temple of the Holy Spirit is realized simultaneously. The ecclesial communion of believers in Christ through the Holy Spirit reveals the mystery of the communion of the Holy Trinity as the foundation, example and ultimate goal of Christian mission.
