Abstract

The Church press between mission and image. The author – who teaches patristic theology of the word within the framework of the new Theology-sciences of communication section of the Faculty of Orthodox Theology in Cluj and who is at the same time editor of the journal "Renaöterea"/"La Renaissance " of the Archdiocese of Vad, Feleac and Cluj - pleads in this study for a stylistic and thematic renewal of the ecclesial press or of Christian inspiration. If in the communist period the ecclesial-theological discourse was forced to restrict itself to the liturgical space, after its fall the Church found itself before a vast horizon of provocations. To respond to this horizon of expectations, the Christian voice, to make itself heard, must anchor itself in the substantial "rhetoric" of the Fathers of the Church and at the same time it must adapt to the new media. This "double fidelity", which is nourished by eschatological awareness, requires on the one hand a closer cooperation between the hierarchy and the laity and on the other hand a reconsideration of the deeper theological dimension of journalism placed at the service of Gospel. Between the Article of Faith and the articles of the Christian press there is a confessing unity which only needs to be rediscovered.
