In the following text, I would like to describe some contemporary models of mission as they are understood and lived in the Orthodox Church. First, I would like to deepen the concept of mission as it is presented in the missiology handbooks of Romanian Orthodox theological schools, in the understanding of some Orthodox theologians and in some recently published Orthodox Church documents. Here I shall try to answer questions such as: On what ecclesiological understanding is the Orthodox mission based? How does ecumenical understanding influence mission? Who authorizes mission according to Orthodox thinking? Which are the modern documents on mission in the Universal Orthodox Church? Secondly, I will try to get more specific, presenting the case of the Romanian Orthodox Church and the missiological trends and challenges in our particular Church. Without wishing to accuse anyone, I think it is also a good opportunity to look at how proselytizing is unfortunately a constant temptation for all of us.
