Interfaith dialogue is a notion, in fact a reality, rooted in the very beginnings of the Christian faith. The dialogue of Christ with the Samaritan woman is the example par excellence of such a dialogue. The gospels are filled with a plethora of examples of such dialogues, whether they belonged to the “master and disciple” type, or they took the character of an antilogue, a confrontational “debate” (in miniscule, for the most part) or even when they expressed a practical, at times physical contact between people of different faiths.
