Abstract

One of the central missiological works of the post-colonial era is the volume Transforming Mission: Paradigm Shifts in Theology of Mission by missionary and missiologist David J. Bosch. His work was followed by American missiologists Stephen B. Bevans and Roger P. Schroeder in their study Constants in Context: A Theology of Mission for Today. Although these two works have different attitudes towards the topic, their aim is the same. Both try to present a conception of mission which reflects on its diversity and relevance in today’s world. In their work, they point at the fact that mission is especially godly. After all, God was the first missionary and the church is a participant. Mission is a service of God’s kingdom and key words are liberation and justice. The above-mentioned missiological works have many similarities and discuss – apart from other issues – salvation, hope, prophetic dialogue and contextual theology, which is ground-breaking in many aspects. In the final part of this contribution, the above-mentioned theses are discussed in the context of today’s perception of missiology in Slovak and Czech churches.
