We started from the belief that in our secularized culture, the identity of a faithful Christian - a layman - has faded and lost its uniqueness, its specificity. It is the current social situation and the changes in it that challenge us to active faith. First, we tried to answer the question of who is a believer, a layman. We start from sacrament of St. baptism, for through it all believers receive the threefold ministry of Christ: priestly, prophetic, and guidance. This has an impact on a Christian’s life and functioning. Looking at the diversity of ministries in one and the same communion of Christ - communio - all baptized Christians have different missions. The Second Vatican Council, followed by the Post-Synodal Apostolic Exhortation on Christian Laity, emphasizes that the primary place the believer’s mission is in the midst of the world in which believers live and work. After outlining the identity of the lay believer and pointing to his special mission, we sought an answer regarding the relationship between believers and priests, especially when it comes to social or political activity of believers. We are on the one side based on a position that forbids the priest or restricts political action (Can. 287) in parties and unions, and on the other it is clear that priests must strive for a just society. Lay people are completely free in their political activities and are bound by their Christian conscience (CS 4, 73-76). In ten points, we thus tried to summarize those aspects that define the relationship between socially engaged believers and priests or the Church as an institution.
