The article demonstrates that the passage of 1 Pet. 2:11-17 does not presuppose a specific model of church-state relations, in other words, it is not dogmatic. The focus, rather, was made on fundamental values in the process of forming the relationship between the two institutions. This challenges, on the one hand, those Protestants who are tempted to see in the passages a basis for building a clear model of relations. On the other hand, the passage demonstrates the inevitability of coexistence and interaction between the church and the state authorities, which challenges the part of the Protestant churches, which still views its relations with state institutions in terms of distancing. Cooperation between the state and the church is desirable and possible only if the autonomy of each of these public institutions is preserved.
