Abstract

At the level of Luke's historical protagonists, Peter's justification of his socialization and agreement with Gentile converts was an incentive for Jewish Christians to open up to converts of Gentile origin. Cz. In his dissertation on Acts 10:1-11,18, Lukasz interprets the conversion of Cornelius in Acts as Luke's call to new interpersonal relationships in the community of baptized Jews and Gentiles due to God's saving intervention revealed in Jesus Christ. Some exegetes see in the report of Cornelius an impetus towards ecumenical contacts and cooperation. Reading Peter's homily in Acts 1:11-18 in the light of the contemporary missio ad gentes, we should seek in it an incentive for missionary activity, which is essential in order to be Christ's disciples in our time and place of witness. This activity makes the Church an apostolic community, a sacrament of salvation in Christ the universal Savior. This is the permanent task of Christian pastors and all baptized men and women. The author concludes his thoughts with an inspired opening prayer of the mass for the evangelization of the people.
