This is an interpretative phenomenological study examining the recalled experiences of Baptist pastors during the Soviet era in Belarus. Six pastors were studied using semi-structured interviews. Six themes were derived from the data: (a) persecution and marginalization methods; (b) persecution consequences; (c) coping with persecution; (d) physical experiences; (e) behavioral experiences; (f) emotional experiences. The findings of this research revealed that almost thirty years after the collapse of the Soviet Union, many of the participants and all the non-participants found it difficult to trust. Despite participants’ exemplary behavior and positive attitude towards authorities they were persecuted. Although these pastors knew the possible consequences, they were willing to be pastors and to suffer for their believes. Despite their negative experiences, no pastor revealed negative feelings.
