Abstract

The paper discusses reform events in Croatian historical countries during the reformation in the wider European historical, theological, cultural and social context. With the research of unused archive material so far, critically analyzed published historical sources and key works of Croatian and European reformers have had a significant impact on the development of the reformation in Croatian historical lands and among expatriate Croats. Using the recent theoretical methodology templates based on the studied material, a critical synthesis of the history of the reformation in the Croatian historical space was made. New theories of new social and cultural history, or new religious history, served as a theoretical background. In the focus of the research are the modes of reception and practice of reform ideas in different social classes in the Croatian historical space, from folk to elite protestantism. The research identified specific areas, periods and processes of reformation development. In the context of the expansion of the European Reformation, the reform events in the Croatian countries took place in three areas that were the marginal areas of the broader religious, geographical, political, economic and cultural ensemble. The reformation of reform is followed in three periods: in the first period, reformist learning served as the spiritual renewal of the Roman Catholic Church, in the second for the establishment and institutionalization of the evangelical or reformed tradition of reformation, and for the third period a characteristic struggle for survival during the counter-information. The paper also discusses key processes of publicity, proclaiming and establishing the Scriptural doctrine, which include preaching, teaching and interpretation of the same in the family and the community of believers, various kinds of worship and worship, relating to marriage and family, upbringing and education of children and adults. Particular attention is paid to the transfer of ideas to printed books, brochures and dramatic exclamations. As the fundamental objective of the Reformation was to proclaim the Gospel and to restore the Church's life, rooted in the doctrine of the Scriptures, reformers in Croatian historical countries have only partially achieved this goal. Apart from partial and insufficient support of the nobility, as well as effective anti-information and fear of the Inquisition, the success of reformation in Croatian countries was dependent on successful organization and collaboration of churches, the establishment of general education and the training of believers for spiritual services.
