Historical Protestant churches are (also) looking for forms of authentic missionary presence in today's Hungarian social environment. Instead of uncritically adapting to the "demand" for church services and simplified solutions to world-denying, aggressive retreat, an in-depth, critical theological foundation can provide a sound basis for our missionary work. To provide a forum for theological reflection on these issues the symposium "Church and Mission in a Secularized Hungarian Society" was organized, which took place on April 26-28, 2001 in the sophisticated library room of the Pontifical Reformed College. The Papa Missiological Symposium was guided by the work, in which the participants invite the congregations of the historic Protestant churches to an authentic and honest encounter with today's secularized Hungarian culture from a standpoint of the nature of the church's missions. What was said during the sessions could serve as a catalyst in the process that will become increasingly clear, as summarized by Prof. Dr. Anne-Marie Kool, who chaired the symposium: “Mission is a matter for God. Our job is just obedience. As a church, we can create an open space, a community where people can feel at home and where He works in their hearts." This is how our churches can fulfill their mission more and more.
