Mission is one of the main tasks of the Church. The missionary activity of the Russian Orthodox Church of the pre-revolutionary years is evaluated differently. Did church ministers realize the changes taking place in the country's life, which ultimately led to the catastrophe of 1917? Did the preachers try to master the language that the Russian intelligentsia was used to hearing? Was the activity of Orthodox missionaries effective? A.G. Kravetsky considers missionary discussions, the period of preparations for the All-Russian Church Council of 1917-1918 and documents of the Council itself. The secularization of Russian society, which began even in the pre-revolutionary years, made its mission relevant not only among non-Christian nations, but also among people born in Orthodox families. At missionary congresses and during the preparations for the Council, this task was set. And in Soviet times, precisely this form of missionary activity turned out to be in demand. Mission is always a response to the calls of time, so missionary methods become outdated very quickly. To what extent did the missionary experience of the 20th century become relevant today?
