The study proposes a historical-content analysis of the etymological and semantic evolution that the notion of "mission" underwent within the contemporary Orthodox theological sphere, in particular in the Hellenophone one. An examination of the most accredited authors today highlights, in fact, the attempt to define theologically and to deepen ecclesiologically the content of the missionary commitment. The mission (ιεραποστολή), understood as the kerygmatic announcement of the truth of Christ, accompanies and is completed with evangelization (ευαγγελισμός), which includes the final recapitulation of all things in the light of the eschaton, which has already penetrated history. This idea has inspired theologians to discern the deeper dynamics of missionary activity, within the recognition of the mystery of the Church and by virtue of the inseparable link between history and eschatology, such as: the testimony of the glory of the Triune God; the "martyria" of the eschatological Kingdom of God and therefore of the inescapable link between history and eschaton; the deepening of the concept of "liturgy after the Liturgy", or of the liturgical and Eucharistic inspiration of the mission that places the emphasis on the transformation of creation. It is precisely these approaches that have given way to a peculiar theological synthesis of a missiological imprint.
