Abstract

A recent study found that 75% of people believe religious communities have a great or important influence on the country. (IPSOS survey conducted on behalf of IRI (International Republican Institute, February 2017). Hence, there is potential for using inter-religious dialogue as one of the initiatives among Muslims, Orthodox Christians and Catholic Christians for reconciliation. This paper investigates joint successful practices of inter-religious dialogue in local communities in Bosnia and Herzegovina, through cooperation of believers, and local and top religious leaders. The premise of these joint activities is that the more religious leaders cooperate among themselves, the more will believers be involved and have benefit through inter-religious dialogue. This paper will present best practices from local communities through several peace-building projects Catholic Relief Services (CRS) in Bosnia and Herzegovina implemented. Through number of activities, youth has shown greatest interest in active participation. Activities such as joint visits to Churches and Mosques, locally driven small grant initiatives had led to increasing social cohesion and greater cooperation in these local communities. Finally, this paper will discuss impact these activities have had on familiarizing with others and different in mono-ethnic and multi-ethnic communities.
